Bone and Joint CT Scans
Purpose
CT scan is used solely for the purpose of examining bones and disorders of the bone. It is also suitable for the examination of degenerative bone disorders of the joint and bony tumors. For examination of cartilage, bone marrow and its disorders, MRI scan is indicated.
What preparations are required beforehand?
No preparation is usually required beforehand. Contrast material is administered only rarely and then only following special consultation.
What does the procedure entail? A series of images will be prepared of the joint or bone involved. This will be followed by multilevel 2D reconstruction of the soft tissues and, separately, of the bones. In special instances, 3D reconstruction is also prepared. The special CT equipment at our disposal allows for fast examination, thus, the entire process causes a minimum of stress to the patient.
Contraindications
There are no significant contraindications. In the event that contrast material may be indicated in special cases, allergy to the material would, of course, be a contraindication then.
