Hysterosalpingo Constrast Sonography

What is the purpose of this procedure?

The Hysterosalpingo Constrast Sonography (HyCoSy) is a state-of-the-art technique used to examine the female pelvic organs - to determine fallopian tube patency and abnormalities of the uterus. There is no anesthesia, no radiation.

What preparation is required for this procedure?

No preparation is required prior to the procedure, however, timing is essential. The procedure must be performed immediately after bleeding has ceased but before ovulation - that is between the 6th and 12th day of the menstrual cycle.

How is the procedure performed?

A fine plastic tube is passed through the cervix into the uterus. A small balloon on the catheter is inflated, an ultrasound contrast agent injected and a vaginal ultrasound scan performed of the uterus and fallopian tubes.

Are there any contraindications to this procedure?

This procedure should not be done in the case of pelvic infection or pregnancy.
 
The patient will receive a written report of the results.
