Genodisc Study

 genodisc

The purpose of the Genodisc study is to map the biological and genetic molecular background of degenerative spinal disorders.  A consortium of 10 European research institutions is involved in this 5-year project of which we are a determining partner.  A unique data base containing the anonymous clinical data and DNS samples of several thousand patients with spinal disorders is being created as part of the process.  This data base will be the basis for the diversified molecular biological research being done in Europe's most up-to-date laboratories.

The study places great emphasis is on the prevention of spinal diseases and on effective preventive activities.  Throughout the years, more than ten thousand elementary school children will take part in the spine strengthening program.

The Genodisc study is supported by the European Union as part of its Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).   The research results will brings us closer to understanding the evolution of spinal disorders and to the development of better diagnostic and therapeutic instrumentation.
